Nepal Telecom Company (NTC) is launching ADSL internet service in April 2008 which should be closely around Nepali New Year 2065.
Nepal Telecom is contructing ADSL Network to provide broadband services to its landline customers in Nepal. The network will be constructed in different phases , with 22,000 ADSL 2+ ports in the Kathmandu valley in the first phase. Initially, services like high speed internet and Virtual Private Network (VPN) shall be available at affordable costs to its valued custommers through this network. In due time new services like IPTV and Video on demand (VOD) services can also be made available through this network.
How fast is NTC ADSL?
Traditional ADSL provides speeds up to 8Mbps downstream (to the user) and up to 1 Mbps upstream but the technology being deployed by Nepal Telecom ADSL 2+ is ideally capable of speeds upto 24 Mbps downstream and 1 Mbps upstream, depending upon line length and line conditions.
